does that make sense?
no. not really. to me at least, it doesn't but that is ok.
google says that heaven is:
any place of complete bliss and delight and peace; the abode of God and the angels.
what?
complete bliss, delight and peace.
peace.
what does that even mean?
i know that lately, society is obsessed with peace.
there are peace signs on jewelry, clothing, bumper stickers, tattoos etc...
we want this peace in our lives & yet everything that's in our lives continually points elsewhere.
money
success
relationships
atheism
careers
religion
how do any of these things bring peace?
how is money going to give me peace?
it leaves regularly.
without it, we go crazy.  with it, we go numb.
how is success going to give me peace?
it wavers.
others are always going to be better.
how do relationships bring peace?
they often run away.
leaving ones heart shattered or bitter.
how is believing there is NOTHING out there bring me peace?
feeling lost in limbo.
stuck in the universe.
alone.
how would having a career bring me peace?
being so inindated by work day in and day out, forgetting that i am human and created for community.
staying at the office until the sun rises.
how can being religious bring me peace?
acomplishing monotonous tasks.
being reprimanded for your choices by another human.
 
HOW?
 
well, i will tell you.
it.
simply.
cannot.
and the great thing is this:
i am not the first to say this.
you know who was?
jesus.
but not that blue-eyed, floating on a cloud, do-gooder jesus with a glow of light and a somber expression.
no.
it was the jesus that called the lowest of the low to follow him.
it was the jesus that loved the prostitutes.
it was the jesus that stayed in the will of God, even to his death.
it was that jesus.
THAT jesus is why i choose this faith instead of any other one.
THAT jesus is why i strive to love.
THAT jesus is why i am going to heaven.
he is why i am going to heaven where i will get to sing my heaven song.
