For the past 3 weeks, I've been nannying 2 boys twice a week for 6 hours.
Jacob is 4 & Liam is 1.
Although Jacob is a sweet sweet angel, it has been quite a battle with Liam.
He is, after all, only 1 and has never been away from his dad before I came.
Even when I knock on the door he starts screaming because he knows what's coming.
Last week was really hard. Monday he screamed for the whole 6 hours... Tuesday only 4.
Yesterday was the best day yet though. He only cried when he woke up from his nap!
I've been praying for about 2 years to have another job instead of working with my dad in the office.
During those 2 years I applied for numerous other jobs. All to no avail.
A month ago, this nanny job was given to me. Seemingly out of nowhere. How blind I am.
After 2 years of prayer were finally was answered, it only took 3 weeks for me to start complaining.
I woke up yesterday annoyed that I had to go get cried on, snotted on, food stuck on and peed on.
This is what God had in store for me yesterday despite my complaints and bratty attitude:
As Liam, the 1 year old, slept on my chest, Jacob and I had a beautiful conversation. He had his blankie laying out on the floor. I was surprised at the picture on it. It was of Noah, his wife and the ark. The family is not Christian. So I asked Jacob:
"Do you know who that man and wife are?"
No.
"It's Noah and his wife Sarah."
Who are they?
"They were people that lived on earth a long time ago. God told them a giant storm was coming that would flood the whole earth. He said to make a huge boat, called an ark. He also said to put 2 of each animal on the boat to save them along with Noah's whole family."
Who is God?
"God is the creator of everything you see. He has a son named Jesus, too."
Jesus?
"Mmhum. He came to earth a long time ago and lived without his Dad for about 30 years. After that, the evil ruler had him killed. God knew this had to be done so that you and I could be free from sin which is the bad stuff we do like lie and steal. But guess what?"
What?
"He came back to life and went back home with God in heaven. Now he lives inside of our heart if we want him to."
(He was contemplating that in his head for a moment)
So... God is Jesus' daddy?
"Mmmhum."
Does he love him?
"So much. And guess what?"
What?
"He loves you too."
Really?
"Of course. And he knows what your name is."
(He got super excited at this point)
JACOB!?
"Yes. And what color eyes you have."
(His eyes got HUGE and his smile was sweet and shy)
BLUE?!
"Yeah. And how many hairs are on your head."
(He laughed and smiled)
I don't even think daddy could count that many highs.
"I agree."
So Jesus loves me?
"So so much."
After that he had a huge smile on his face.
It clicked that he was someone special.
It was a beautiful moment to watch the foundation of everything I believe in revealed to a child that had never before heard of the names God or Jesus.
There was no hesitation.
No, "why would he love me?" questions.
Just simple faith that knows truth.
*I don't know if it matters or not but to be safe and respectful, these are not the kids' real names.*
